Nowadays, learning about a car alone may not be satisfying and you may want to further understand it within a personalized context.
As much as I love YouTube channels like Carwow or Redline Reviews, I look for car content in Kenya to understand the vehicle experience from a local perspective.
Below are 10 interesting Kenyan car YouTube channels to consider. Each channel has carved out a niche within the automotive industry such that there is a variety to pick from beyond standard reviews:
Table of Contents
1. Carnversations
Carnversations is arguably the largest car-focused YouTube channel in Kenya with about 183,000 subscribers at the time of writing this article.
The channel offers a range of car content from in-depth car reviews and comparisons to industry news and discussions on car ownership (maintenance, laws and a little about car restorations). I am particularly drawn to their “Budget Focus” segment which gives reasons for and against buying a car and its value proposition.
2. Autokonnect Kenya
Autokonnect Kenya has similar content to Carnversations (due in part to the fact that the host, Erick Wokabi, started out as the host and co-founder of Carnversations before leaving rather controversially to create his own channel).
The channel also does in-depth car reviews as well as interactive live sessions where viewers can engage directly with the host on topics like importation processes and affordable, reliable cars.
3. Turbo Tales KE
This channel focuses on reviews of high-performance vehicles and vintage classics.
It also offers behind-the-scenes looks at car meets and car events.
Their content is mostly unscripted which gives it an authentic, fun vibe.
According to their website, they want to “…capture the essence of what makes the Kenyan car scene so dynamic and engaging…” Their content is especially enticing for car enthusiasts and “petrol heads”.
4. 0-60 Motoring
Although the channel’s name may imply high performance and fast-paced acceleration (which is sometimes incorporated into the videos), 0-60 Motoring actually does car reviews and content guiding viewers on purchasing vehicles- pros and cons, financing options and maintenance costing. I appreciate long-term reviews like the one on the channel’s own diesel Mazda CX-5.
5. Evans Ogachi
This channel may not be the most popular in Kenya, but it deviates from standard reviews by offering an interesting niche in automotive content- reviews of project cars and restorations.
The host covers restorations of classic vehicles and takes them out on road trips and car meets catering for those more inclined towards DIY in the car space.
6. Pamurick Show
This channel has also carved out a niche for itself in car content. The channel’s value proposition lies in covering government and private auctions of vehicles.
Videos on the channel showcase auction processes- the events, bidding and outcomes– educating casual viewers and car enthusiasts alike (as well as highlighting good deals).
7. Mungai WildArt
Mungai WildArt follows a couple who travel in their decked-out classic Land Rover- their ownership experience and the adventures they get into with it.
They also do restoration and travel content but skewed towards classic Land Rovers.
The travel content incorporates off-road adventures as older Land Rovers were known to be quite capable off-roaders.
The channel provides insight into the upkeep and restoration of older Land Rover models while also being a good watch for those interested in off-roading.
8. Charlel Adventure
This is another travel channel with an interesting quirk- it is centered on older Toyota Corolla. The host embarks on road trips across the country with other Toyota Corolla owners.
The content provides a good mix of entertainment, appreciation for the beauty of this country and a niche for Corolla owners who want to connect with an online community.
The channel also covers some car events.
9. Amoke Vlogs
A number of channels mentioned above cover car events within their main content. This channel centers on covering local car events and meetups.
Do you want to know about an upcoming drag race or motor show event? Amoke Vlogs more than likely has information about it. They also do some travel content offering insight into places one can visit and the activities available there.
10. Kenyan Car Culture
This channel does not do typical reviews with descriptions but instead shoots expensive, unique or rare vehicles in Kenya.
It is ideal for those who want a glimpse into how the other half lives.
Conclusion
There are more YouTube channels not mentioned here that offer engaging content. The options may not all be the most popular, but they give a good balance of general information and personalised niches- a little something for everyone.
